Former Samsung Group chairman Lee Kun-hee has been strongly hinting that he will resume his position as head of South Korea¡¯s largest business conglomerate. Lee was found guilty for creating a slush fund, but was pardoned by President Lee Myung-bak at the end of last year.
Lee gave these remarks when answering questions from reporters following the celebration of Samsung Group¡¯s late founder Lee Byung-chul¡¯s 100th birthday held at HOAM Art Hall in Seoul on Feb. 5.
The former chairman said, ¡°I think that it is still somewhat too early to resume management rights.¡± Lee added, ¡°However, I will return if Samsung becomes weak as a company. Help is a more appropriate word than return.¡± When asked, ¡°Do you think Samsung is currently strong?¡± Lee replied, ¡°I think it is not bad so far.¡±
Lee plans to travel to Vancouver early next week to attend the International Olympic Committee (IOC) meeting, which will be held from Feb. 10 through 11.
