Music videos from SM Entertainment artists will screen on Samsung televisions transformed into 3-D content by the Avatar production team

Samsung Electronics is joining forces with the production team for the 3-D film “Avatar” and South Korea’s leading entertainment agency SM Entertainment to obtain 3-D music videos and concerts.

Yoon Boo-keun, president of the Visual Display Division at Samsung Electronics, announced a plan for collaboration on 3-D content with Avatar director James Cameron and SM Entertainment President Lee Soo-man on Friday at the multi-purpose hall of the company’s office in the Seocho neighborhood of Seoul’s Gangnam district. Through this collaborative effort, the Avatar production team is to produce 3-D versions of music videos and concerts for singers affiliated with SM Entertainment, which Samsung Electronics will use as content for previewing 3-D televisions. Samsung plans to supply the 3-D content through its Mobile Application Store and Internet TV. The Avatar team is to begin work in mid-June on turning music videos and concerts by South Korean artists like Boa and TVXQ into 3-D content.

Following the announcement Friday, Cameron said that it was natural that 3-D television maker Samsung Electronics would cooperate with leaders in media such as film. Cameron also took part in a global launching show for Samsung Electronics’ 3-D television held in late March at Manhattan’s Times Square in the U.S.
