On Nov. 22, Daewon Plus Construction Co. announced that it has signed an MOU with Gyeonggi Province, Siheung City and K-Water to construct a massive artificial surfing park in Sihwa Lake, located in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province. Sihwa Lake is a reservoir that was constructed in 1994 to accommodate a seawall linking the islands of Oido and Daebudo. The environmental destruction that followed once led locals to call it the “lake of death,” but restorations efforts have since converted it into a thriving habit for migratory birds. The artificial surfing park will encompass the artificial island on which a high-tech industrial complex called Sihwa MTV (multi-techno valley) will be built. The park is expected to open in 2020.
