A sluggish domestic market has South Korean investors looking overseas for higher returns. Overseas investments accounted for 28.3% of the country’s total investment funds in 2019, nearly double 15.3% recorded in 2015, surpassing US$155 billion, according to the Korea Financial Investment Association (KOFIA). A fund that devotes more than 60% of its assets to overseas stocks, bonds, derivatives, and real estate is considered an overseas investment fund.
