The Vietnamese garment industry is facing severe supply shortages amid the novel coronavirus outbreak, Reuters has reported. Vietnamese garment makers rely heavily on materials suppliers in China, South Korea, and Japan. Garments and textiles comprise the country’s top export, followed by smartphones and electronics, and more than 50% of the materials required for its garment industry come from China, which is currently on economic lockdown as factories are shut down to prevent further spread of the virus.
