South Korea’s stature in international exports is falling. According to data released by the Korea International Trade Association (KITA) on Apr. 23, the number of product categories in which South Korea topped the global export market stood at 63 for 2018, 12 less than the previous year. The 63 categories include items such as chemical productions, steel and non-steel metals, and textiles, and accounted for 23.7% of the country’s total export revenue. The number of categories in which South Korea placed number one stood at 56, including semiconductor memory (39.7% market share) and tanker ships (42.1%).
