LG Chem has successfully sent a drone powered by its next-generation lithium-sulfur battery into the stratosphere. On Sept. 10, LG Chem announced that it had successfully flown an EAV-3 drone at an altitude of 12 to 22km for 13 hours. Particularly notable was that 22km is the highest altitude reached by a domestically developed drone and the second highest to be reached by an unmanned aircraft under 500kg in weight, beaten only by an aircraft developed by Airbus Defence and Space in Germany. The test flight was a demonstration of the effectiveness of LG Chem’s lithium-sulfur batteries in powering aircraft and other complex machinery. The photo shows the EAV-3 drone. (provided by LG Chem)
