Samsung Electronics estimated its share of last year’s DRAM semiconductor market at 43.1%, with a 16.2% share of the market in cell phones and other mobile devices.
On Feb. 18, Samsung Electronics shared an overview of its 2020 performance in recommended reference material for proxy decision-making issued ahead of a regular shareholders’ meeting next month.
According to the company’s estimates, it held a 43.1% share of the 2020 DRAM product market in dollar value terms. Its market share was down slightly from 43.7% in 2019 (according to the DRAMeXchange, an outside research organization) and 43.9% in 2018.
Samsung Electronics estimated its share of the 2020 hand-held phone (HHP) market, which includes smartphones, at 16.2% in terms of volume. The percentage was down sharply from 17.5% in 2019 (according to Strategy Analytics) and 17.4% in 2018.
The company has ranked first in the world for TV sales for 15 straight years since 2006. It estimated its share of the 2020 global TV market at 32.3% in dollar value terms — a major increase from 30.9% in 2019 (according to Omdia) and 29.0% in 2018.
In the area of displays, Samsung Electronics estimated its 2020 share of the global smartphone panel market at 43.8% in dollar value terms. This was similar to the 43.6% share calculated by Omdia for 2019 but down sharply from 47.6% in 2018.
The company estimated the 2020 global market share of automobile component subsidiary Harman’s Digital Cockpit at 27.5% in volume terms, up significantly from 24.8% in 2019 and 18.8% in 2018.
Samsung Electronics also announced corporate tax expenses of 9.94 trillion won (US$8.98 billion, consolidated) for 2020, along with 29.38 trillion won (US$26.55 billion) in “cash and cashable assets” as of late 2020.
