South Korean baseball player Yang Jun-hyuk recorded his 2,000th hit Saturday - the first time that number has been reached in the 26-year history of the local baseball league.

Yang, a franchise star of Samsung Lions, one of eight South Korean baseball teams, pulled off two hits in a Saturday game against Doosan Bears in Seoul, bringing the number of hits in his career to 2,000.

The 38-year-old batter, who debuted in the baseball league here in 1993, attained the landmark achievement in little more than 14 years.

Yang's accomplishment compares with 4,256 hits achieved in the U.S. and 3,085 in Japan but experts say it still merits kudos considering the nation's short baseball history. South Korea started its professional baseball league in 1982. Each baseball team plays 126 games in a season.

During the game with Doosan Bears, Yang hit a double in the third and a single in the ninth inning, leading his team's 6-1 victory
