First indoor ski slope in South Korea opens this week

South Korea’s first large-scale indoor ski slope is set to open on July 7.

On July 1, Doh Gyu-yeong, CEO of Tiger World, the indoor ski area’s operator, said, ‘‘People can ski in the summer in South Korea for the first time beginning July 7.’’

The Tiger World indoor ski slope, located in Gyeonggi province, in Bucheon’s Sang neighborhood, is the third such ski area in Asia after Japan and China, which boasts the world’s 12th indoor-ski facility.

The ski area consists of a 270-meter main slope and a 70-meter auxiliary slope. On the auxiliary slope, people can ski, snowboard and sled and a group of trainers for skiing and snowboarding will be on hand to help visitors to the facility. An outside bar, ski rental shops and other facilities will also be available. Prices range from 30,000 won (US$33) to 70,000 won (US$76), similar to the prices at outdoor ski slopes.
