Former comfort women, a euphemism for women who were forced or lured into sexual slavery by and for Japanese soldiers during World War II, hold a rally in front of the Japanese Consulate General in Los Angeles on October 3. The women are calling for reparations and an apology from the Japanese government, which has thus far refused to admit its military’s involvement in the recruitment and enslavement of hundreds of thousands of women.

In July this year the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution condemning the recruitment of women as sex slaves and demanding that the Japanese government acknowledge and take responsibility for its actions.
