Making a detour?

President Lee Myung-bak, nicknamed “The Bulldozer,” drives his bulldozer and digs in an erratic line, beginning at the Seoul-Incheon canal, rounding one corner at the Four Major Rivers Restoration Project, rounding the next corner at the Yeouido International Trade Port, and onward toward the Grand Korean Waterway.

In the middle stand protesters to the Grand Korean Waterway, a highly unpopular project proposed during his campaign for president. The protestors stand under a banner that says, “Opposed to the Grand Korean Waterway,” and ask, “Is he making a detour?”

President Lee withdrew his Grand Korean Waterway pledge after facing widespread fierce opposition, but has since been criticized for reversing his decision once again through the Four Major Rivers Restoration Project. Seoul City has recently announced a proposal for the Yeouido International Trade Port.

President Lee has been strongly criticized for plowing ahead with his administration’s policies regardless of proper legal procedures or public opinion.
