Commemorating the roots of democracy

Members of civic organizations lay flowers beneath the portrait of the late Lee Han-yeol on the 23rd anniversary of his death at Yonsei University in Seoul, June 9.

The late Lee was struck in the head and killed by a tear gas canister beside the front gate of Yonsei University during a pro-democracy demonstration against the military dictatorship on June 6, 1987. His death ignited the pro-democracy movement in 1987.
