Brief rampage, lasting damage
After typhoon Kompasu swept central Korea, a number of utility poles and traffic lights were found strewn over roads in Guri, northern Gyeonggi Province, Thursday morning.

¡¡

Kompasu, with strong winds blowing at a maximum speed of over 50 meters per second, rampaged for just 4 hours and 15 minutes. But the damage caused by Kompasu was serious. Five people were found dead after the typhoon struck and 1.62 million households experienced blackouts, the largest power outage by a natural disaster in the country¡¯s history.

This is the seventh tropical typhoon to hit the region this year and it was the strongest seasonal storm to hit Seoul in 15 years, according to reports by meteorologists.
