Students of Dongguk University’s Student Body perform Samboilbae, three steps and one bow, in front of the main building to protest against the university administration’s decision to increase tuition by 4.9 percent and request a freeze on the tuition.

Dongguk University showed the highest increase rate of tuition followed by Konkuk University that decided on a 4.7 percent hike. Most universities in Seoul appear to have decided 3.0 percent increase or less according to the government’s recommendation.

Although an official with Dongguk University administration said 4.9 percent hike was inevitable, since it froze tuition over the last two years, students have strongly criticized the school for enacting the highest increase, just below the limit of 5.1 percent.
