South Korean figure skater Kim Yu-na showcases a sad expression during the dress rehearsal of the ladies' short program at the ongoing world championships held at Megasport Arena, Moscow, Russia, April 30.
After skating to music from the ballet “Giselle,” “Queen Yuna” ranked first in the event with 65.91 points, taking a slim 0.33-point lead over Miki Ando of Japan. Kim successfully came back to the ice rink through her first competitive appearance in 399 days.
The champion will be determined on combined scores at short program and free skating, scheduled for Saturday. Kim’s old rival Mao Asada, who aims the world championship in a row since last year, ranked seventh in the short program.
