In the upper photo, Valerie Amos, head of the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), left, is greeted by a North Korean official after stepping off a shuttle bus at the airport in Pyongyang on Oct. 17. The (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), which released the photo, did not elaborate on what is the purpose of the U.N. official’s trip. She will reportedly assess the food situation outside the North Korean capital during her five-day stay there. Another possible issue of interest is to discuss reopening the OCHA office in Pyongyang that was closed in 2005 at the request of the North.

In the photo below, trucks carrying 300 tons of flour in aid from the Korean Council for Reconciliation and Cooperation, a coalition of pro-unification civic groups, depart the South Korean border town of Paju for the North Korean town of Sariwon, Hwanghae Province, Oct. 19.
