This graphic shows the locations of bars, clubs and salons that are assumed to be linked to the sex industry along with the Teheran Street in Seoul’s Gangnam District. On the left end is Supreme Prosecutor’s Office and on the right end is Gangnam Police Office. Pink, blue, green and orange dots indicate entertainment bars, massage parlors, noraebang, singing rooms, and “love” motels, respectively.

This map was created by weekly current affairs magazine Hankyoreh 21 based on a 700-page report, the “2010 Sex Trades Survey,” by Seoul National University’s Institute for Gender Research (IGR). The IGR received a request from the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, and surveyed around 35,000 businesses reportedly brokering sex industry services located in 45 areas nationwide.
