[Photo] Pyeongchang Winter Olympics skiing venue opens

The Jeongseon Alpine Centre, the venue that will be used for the opening ceremony of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, opened in Jeongseon, Gangwon Province, Jan. 22. When plans for the venue were announced, controversy arose over the environmental damage that would be inflicted on Gariwang Mountain. At left, an image of the mountain from Sep. 2014, during logging in preparation for the venue, and, at right, cable cars during the opening event.
