“Spirits’ Homecoming”, a movie about former comfort women, who were forcibly mobilized as sex slaves for the Japanese imperial army, is to be released in theaters on Feb. 24. The film was made on a budget of 500 million won, crowdfunded by donations from 320,000 people. On the morning of its release, “Spirits’ Homecoming” had pre-sold 27.5% of tickets, putting it in first place for advance sales.

The movie is a story of young girls who are dragged from a river by Japanese soldiers, then grow old and try to gather the souls of comfort women who died before they could return to Korea.
