The Buddhist Unjusa Temple in Hwasun, South Jeolla Province was added as a tentative UNESCO World Heritage Site on Mar. 13. Before being fully recognized as a World Heritage Site, sites need to remain on the tentative list for at least one year. Originally, the temple grounds had around 1,000 pagodas and statues, but currently has only 141 stone pagoda relics and 115 stone Buddha statues.

The statue in this photo depicts a Buddha laying down. The legend has it that if that Buddha were to stand up, a new world would open.
