The pop group BTS captured four categories at the 2020 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs), including Best Song. The members said they dedicated their award to their global fan base, known simply as the “Army.”

In addition to Best Song, BTS also claimed Best Group, Biggest Fans, and Best Virtual Live honors for a total of four wins at the ceremony, which was broadcast live around the world on Nov. 8 (US Eastern Time). First held in 1994, the ceremony is a music event to select the most popular songs, musical acts, and music videos in Europe.

BTS won their first EMA in 2018, when they picked up the prizes for Best Group and Biggest Fans. The following year, they were thrice honored with the same two categories as well as Best Live. This year marks the first time they have captured a win for Best Song, beating out pop stars Dua Lipa, Lady Gaga, and Ariana Grande to snag victory with their August release “Dynamite.” In the category of Best Virtual Life, which was added this year, BTS won for “Bang Bang Con: The Live,” an online concert staged in June.

In a video message, BTS member Jungkook said, “This means so much for us because we really wanted to enjoy this song with our fans in this difficult time.”

Fellow member J-Hope dedicated the award to the Army. The members also noted the many people who joined them for the online concert, adding that they were happy to be able to perform and connect with their audience during the pandemic. They went on to express their hope for the day when they can meet their fans again in person.

Other winners in the event included Lady Gaga for Best Artist and DJ Khaled’s “POPSTAR” for Best Video.
