According to the ruling, the Japanese government must release 268 of 382 remaining diplomatic documents related to negotiations prior to the 1965 Treaty on Basic Relations, which was the start of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Japan. About three-quarters of the documents were released in 2008, but the government had been refusing to make public the remaining documents. In response to the ruling, the Japanese government has said that it will carefully consider its next move. The ruling was made by a lower court and can be appealed. (photo provided by Hye-mun)
