President Moon Jae-in participates in the launch event for the Women‘s Entrepreneurship Facility

On July 8 at the G-20 Summit in Hamburg, President Moon Jae-in participated in the launch event of a women’s entrepreneurship initiative, where he promised that the South Korean government would contribute US$10 million to the Women’s Entrepreneurship Facility, a fund established to provide technical and financial support to small and medium-sized businesses run by women.

Commenting on the president’s plan to contribute to the fund, the Blue House explained, “In accordance with government policies that place priority on support for women’s affairs, the president has expressed our intention to participate actively in such international efforts to expand economic opportunities for women in developing countries and to promote gender equality.” Countries that have already committed to supporting the fund are the United States (US$50 million), Saudi Arabia (US$50 million), the United Arab Emirates (US$50 million), Germany (US$50 million), Norway (US$10.7 million), Denmark (US$10.4 million), Australia (US$10 million), and Canada (US$10 million).

Other participants in the event were US President Donald Trump, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, UK Prime Minister Theresa May, Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg, and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
