A survivor of sexual slavery by the Japanese military as a “comfort woman” passed away recently while living in Daegu.
“A 97-year-old survivor of sexual slavery by Japanese military who was registered as a victim in 2016 passed away early in the morning on Mar. 31,” the group Daegu Citizens’ Forum for Halmuni announced on Apr. 2.
“Out of respect for the wishes of her surviving family, no personal details or details regarding the funeral will be disclosed. May she rest in peace,” the group said.
The latest death of another comfort woman survivor means that only 21 remain alive among the 240 registered with the South Korean government. The average age of the 21 current survivors is 91 years.
