On May 8, Parents’ Day in South Korea, Lee Geum-su, 76, paid tribute to her father, who died in Japan at the tender age of 25 as a forced laborer. Lee never got to see her father because she was still in the womb when he was taken away. Her tribute was part of an event to celebrate the centennial of the March 1 Independence Movement at Seoul’s Museum of Japanese Colonial History in Korea. The exhibition celebrating Korean independence will take place until July 28, and will feature video interviews with 20 surviving family members of forced labor victims.
