Tokyo’s preparations for its 2020 Olympics have been dampened with worries concerning radiation, rising temperatures, and water odor. After a test event at the city’s Odaiba Marine Park on Aug. 11, three rowers were treated for what seemed like heat exhaustion, and several other athletes appeared woozy or unsteady on their feet, The Guardian reported. The Sports Nippon, a Japanese daily, reported that “several athletes pointed to the water’s foul odor and its high temperature.” If the water temperature rises above 31 degrees Celsius, marine sporting events are canceled. The Tokyo Olympic committee did not reveal the water temperature during the test event.
