US Forces Korea (USFK) has confirmed its first service member to be diagnosed with COVID-19, the disease resulting from the novel coronavirus. The 23-year-old soldier was stationed at Camp Carroll in Chilgok, North Gyeongsang Province, near the city of Daegu, where the majority of recent infections have been confirmed. USFK has announced that the soldier is currently in self-quarantine at his residence. The soldier’s diagnosis comes after a "widowed USFK dependent" was diagnosed with COVID-19 in Daegu on Feb. 24. In a press release, USFK announced it is “implementing all appropriate control measures to help control the spread of COVID-19 and remains at risk level 'high' for USFK peninsula-wide as a prudent measure to protect the force.”
