A research team at Harvard Medical School led by Korean professor Kim Kwang-soo, director of Molecular Neurobiology Laboratory at McLean Hospital, has successfully treated a patient of Parkinson’s disease using stem cells. The Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), from which Kim received both his PhD and MS, announced the results of the treatment on June 2. The treatment is a major breakthrough as Parkinson’s was formerly considered incurable. The stem cells were taken from the patient’s skin and implanted in his brain. (provided by KAIST)
