International travelers who beg on the streets for money, known as “beg packers,” are increasing in number on the streets of Seoul as people are going outside more frequently after weeks of social distancing measures amid the COVID-19 pandemic. These beg packers normally hold signs claiming they’ve lost their credit cards and need money to buy plane tickets to return home. Such beggars had temporarily disappeared from sight at the height of South Korea’s epidemic, but now that the number of cases has dramatically decreased and people are starting to roam the streets again, the beg packers have reemerged.
