Some of the world’s most renowned photographers will publish a photography book on South Korea, and hold an exhibition of their work in cooperation with the Hankyoreh.

Magnum, established in 1947 by world-class photographers in order to secure professional autonomy and copyright protection, made the agreement with the Hankyoreh. The project is to mark the 20th anniversary of the Hankyoreh’s establishment.

The photo book will be based on 20 themes relating to South Korea, including its natural environment, roadways, traditions, markets, and festivals, as well as religion, labor, love, and several others. Also included will be a series of aerial views of the nation, as well as a section on the demilitarized zone that separates North and South Korea.

Magnum has published similar such books in Britain, Japan, Portugal, and Greece. The project will take over a year to complete.

Magnum chairman Stuart Franklin said that his team will have the precious chance to showcase the diversity and evolution of his organization and its members via the project. A total of about 20 photographers will participate, including David Alan Harvey, Jean Gomey, Martin Parr, Peter Marlow, Hiroji Kubota and Stuart Franklin.

The album is set to be published in March 2008 and the exhibition slated around May 15, 2008, the day the Hankyoreh was established 20 years before. Overseas exhibitions of the photographs will also be organized in London, New York, and Beijing.
