Lee Hoi-chang, chairperson of the Liberty Forward Party, criticized the Lee administration and newspaper companies on Wednesday by saying, “These days, the Lee administration has turned some newspaper companies into slaves by granting them permits for new comprehensive cable programming channels.”

Chairperson Lee said the following at the senior member meeting of the party held at the National Assembly, “While the Lee administration has made some irresponsible decisions in order to alter the original Sejong City Development Plan, some newspaper organizations have been busy stirring up popular support for the administration’s policies.” Lee continued, “In the past, these newspapers had severely criticized broadcasting companies for becoming advocates for the administration, however, these days the newspapers have not been paying attention to the voices of the opposition.”

Lee added, “Even though voices of opposition and support for the Sejong City revisions are evenly matched, the newspapers are only voicing approval in their headlines that have widespread impact.” He concluded by criticizing the conservative newspapers that are making plans to take up the possibility created by the Lee Myung-bak administration of operating comprehensive cable programming channels, “Aren’t they already trumpeting support for the current administration?”
