Kang Ki-kap, chairperson of Democratic Labor Party (DLP) announced Wednesday, “I am officially proposing a ‘Grand Alliance of Progressive Organizations’ to opposition party and civic organization leaders within January.” Kang added, “We will initiate an agreement for the alliance before the June 2 local elections.”

During his New Year’s press conference held at the National Assembly on the same day, he called the grand alliance of progressive organizations the calling of our era. The DLP plans to hold a workshop on Jan.15, during which the party will form a committee for the establishment of the alliance and reveal the concrete proposal.

Kang also said, “We will create a strong base position from which progressive organizations may be able to take back power on the June 2 local elections through continuing criticism of the Lee Myung-bak administration’s unilateral attitude.” Kang added, “To achieve this, we will make it a core plan to form an anti-MB (Lee Myung-bak) alliance.”

Regarding to the Sejong City Development Plan revisions, he offered his criticism in saying, “The revision plan has fashioned a city of happiness for chaebols in South Korea.” He suggested the formation of an alliance to push the original Sejong City Development Plan.
