Kim Jae-chul, the newly selected president of MBC, failed to enter the headquarters of MBC on his first day of work due to strong resistance from the MBC Union.

Kim tried to enter MBC headquarters located in Seoul’s Yeouido at 8:49 a.m. but was successfully blocked by MBC Union members, who had launched a sit-in strike the evening of the day before. Kim engaged in a heated discussion with union members. When the union members shouted “Get lost, parachute president,” Kim responded, “I am not a parachute president because I have worked at MBC for 30 years.” Additionally, when the union members said, “The Lee Myung-bak administration and Foundation for Broadcast Culture (FBC) are attempting to bring about a crisis at MBC,” Kim replied, “I will save MBC from its current crisis.” Union members, however, continued to refuse to let him pass, and Kim finally gave up and said, “I will work at a place near our headquarters.”

During the discussion, when the union members asked him about the intention he disclosed during an interview with FBC to form a fact finding committee to investigate PD notebook, the show that became controversial for its report on mad cow disease, he showed that he had not changed his stance in saying, “I believe reporters and producers of MBC, however, I still think there may be something we missed.”
