The family of a 52-year-old American teacher, who was pronounced brain dead while living in South Korea, donated her organs to several South Korean patients, hospital officials said Tuesday.

Lina R. Freel last Thursday collapsed from a sudden cerebral hemorrhage while teaching students at the International Christian School in Eujeongbu, north of Seoul, and was declared brain dead at a Seoul hospital. One day later, Rex Freel, her husband and headmaster of the school, expressed his will to donate her organs following her wish and her body was soon transferred to Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital in southern Seoul, hospital officials said.

S.Korea falls to Japan in PK

South Korea was defeated by perennial rival Japan in the semifinal of the AFC Asian Cup in Qatar early Wednesday as its first three kickers in a row failed in the penalty shootout.

The two rival teams ended the 90-minute regulation and 30-minute extra periods tied at 2-2. In the penalties, Japanese goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima became a hero warding off South Korea’s first two shooters. The third South Korean shooter missed the net to the right, while Japan’s three kickers made their shots.

The semifinal defeat extended South Korea’s 51-year drought of winner in Asia. In the other semifinal, Australia smashed Uzbekistan 6-0.
