A flower deliveryman who abused emergency refueling service hundreds of times has been caught. He was served 3 liters of gas at a time while delivering the flowers. Seoul Gangbuk Police Station stated on Aug. 18 that the man, surnamed Lim, was booked without arrest for swindling. Lim falsely claimed his car had been out of gas while driving and was provided with free gas, worth a total of about 9 million won (US$8,830) from his car insurance companies.

Lim found loopholes in ‘overnight insurance product’ service. This insurance product is valid up to one week with 5,000-6,000 won (US$5-6) per car. By paying an extra 450 won (US$0.44), Lim became entitled to kind of emergency refueling service. Lim purchased this insurance for his three different kinds of cars and made regular requests for the emergency refueling service. “Lim lied about his car having run out of gas, then refueled,” explained a police officer. An employee dispatched from the insurance company reportedly did not check if the cars had been really out of gas.

Lim has become more and more bold. He received emergency refueling three times a day for the same car, and even asked for the service right in front of a gas station. Lim was also reported that he required his car “be fueled if I visit the service center.” The insurance company considered this unusually frequent request for the emergency refueling to be weird and notified police of Lim’s suspicious action.
