Former president Park Geun-hye is taken by car to Seoul Detention Center in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province, in the early morning of Mar. 31, after a warrant was issued for her arrest and detention. She was issued the number 503, and during her detention will be addressed by that number instead of by her name.

A source from the Ministry of Justice said that Park is being held in a cell that measures 10.57 square-meters, which is larger than the 6.56 square-meter cell that normal prisoners occupy. When former president Roh Tae-woo (in office 1988-93) was detained, it was in a 21.81 square-meter cell, and former president Chun Doo-hwan (1979-88) was detained in a 21.38 square-meter cell.

Park’s cell features a mattress and cabinet, a desk and eating table. After eating her meals alone, Park has to wash her own dishes. She must wake up at 6 am each day and go to bed at 8 pm, with 45 minutes of exercise during the day. (pool photo)
