The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced on Jan. 25 that a revised law banning coffee sales at elementary, middle, and high schools had passed the Health and Welfare Committee in the National Assembly. If passed into law, coffee sales would be banned at all schools beginning in July, including vending machines. Current law allows the sale of coffee on school grounds. The decision was made due to the detrimental effects that these drinks can have on students, including hyperactivity, anxiety, and sleep disorders.
