Holding signs reading, “Stop the restructuring,” “Retract [the decision] to close the Gunsan factory” the GM Korea branch of the Korean Metal Workers Union held a rain-drenched rally in front of the Central Government Complex in Seoul on Feb. 28. Demonstrators condemned GM Korea’s decision last month to close its factory in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province, while demanding that the government take measures to guarantee the rights of the company’s 300,000 employees. GM Korea is currently in negotiations with the South Korean government as it seeks public assistance in order to keep its three remaining factories in operation.
