The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced on Mar. 14 that it had discovered a human bone during a transmitter search of the wreckage of the Sewol ferry. The bone, which is between 15-20 cm, will be sent to the National Forensic Service for further analysis. During the month of March, the Ministry is conducting a detailed hand-search of mud, insulation, shells, and other objects that were part of the wreckage in order to see if there are any traces of human remains. The Sewol has been permanently placed at the port of Mokpo in South Jeolla Province. 299 people died in the accident, and the remains of five others have yet to be recovered.
