Seoul’s Bukchon Hanok Village, an area known for its traditional hanok buildings and homes that have been renovated, is located north of Gyeongbok Palace and thus attracts tourists yearlong. Many visitors, both Korean and foreign, head to the village dressed in hanbok (traditional Korean garments) and pose for photos in front of the houses, often leaning against the doors or pretending to open them. Residents of the area have long protested the noise and disrespectful behavior of many tourists, but visitors have continued to ignore the signs that ask people to be quiet and not discard trash. The photo above depicts residents demanding the restoration of peace and quiet to their neighborhood on May 5.
