In Korea, the dog days of summer are divided into three days, known as sambok, on which it is common to eat either samgyetang (chicken ginseng soup) or bosintang (dog soup). On Aug. 16, the last dog day of summer, animal rights activists gathered in Gwanghwamun Plaza to protest the consumption of dog meat. They were greeted by an association of dog meat farmers, who claimed that the animal rights groups were manufacturing “fake news” regarding their business.
