Second Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Roh Tae-kang has publicly apologized for being “unable to protect our athletes” after short track speed skater and Olympic medalist Shim Suk-hee publicly accused her former coach, Cho Jae-beom, of repeated sexual assault over a seven-year period on Jan. 8. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a press conference soon after the accusation at the Central Government Complex in Seoul. In addition to his apology, Roh announce the ministry would be toughening its regulations in order to prevent future instances of sexual assault against athletes. (Baek So-ah, staff photographer)
