To implement a new measure to subsidize farmers, South Jeolla Province has begun investigations and analyses of farmers and farmland to determine who will receive the subsidies and how much they’ll receive. The province will then make cost-sharing agreements with individual cities and counties and reflect them in it is budget for next year. South Jeolla Provincial Governor Kim Yung-rok said the subsidies are part of a governmental effort to stabilize the livelihood of farmers and acknowledge their essential role to social stability and the public good. The province started off by paying 600,000 to 700,000 won to farmers in Gangjin and Haenam Counties last year, and has decided to expand the program to include the entire province.
