Members of the Hyundai Motor branch of the Korean Metal Workers’ Union and the Korean Public Service and Transport Workers’ Union have purchased a new car for Baek Ki-wan, 87, director of the Unification Research Institute. The new Hyundai Sonata was purchased using funds donated by union members. An employee of the Unification Research Institute commented that Baek’s old car, after several years of use, was in disrepair and no longer safe. Baek is a longtime advocate of unification and workers’ rights whose hometown is in Unnyul County, South Hwanghae Province, North Korea. The union provided Baek with the car so he can visit his home once unification is achieved. (provided by the Unification Research Institute)
