The Korean Postal Workers’ Union (KPWU) canceled its strike that it’d planned for July 9. In a press conference in Seoul’s Gwanghwamun Square on July 8, Lee Dong-ho, leader of the KPWU, said it was a “difficult decision” to cancel the strike, but that the government had promised to make improvements to alleviate postal workers from excessive workloads. Some members of the Korean Public Transport Union, however, criticized the withdrawal, citing instances of parcel delivery drivers dying from overwork and claiming that simply increasing the number of drivers wasn’t going to prevent such deaths. The photo shows Lee and the KPWU leadership offering an apology for the strike’s cancellation.
