Among the pine trees on Mt. Halla, Jeju Island’s highest peak, roughly a third of them have died within the last 20 years. According to Jeju’s World Heritage Office, 36.43% of the indigenous Korean fir that covers Mt. Hall has withered away within the past 20 years, indicating that the mountain’s forest is diminishing due to climate change. Studies were conducted based on aerial footage of the mountain’s forest taken in April 2017.
