South Korea’s star athletes show support for Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province
by donating to the cause of stopping the region’s novel coronavirus outbreak. Golfer and LGPA champion Ko Jin-young donated 100 million won (US$84,333) to Keimyung University Dongsan Medical Center, a major base for fighting the coronavirus in the city of Daegu. Choi Hye-jin, another professional golfer, donated 30 million won (US$25,316) to the national disaster relief organization Hope Bridge. Legendary figure skater and Olympic gold medalist Yuna Kim donated 185 million won (US$156,170) to UNICEF Korea, while Woo Kyu-min, pitcher for the Samsung Lions (based in Daegu), donated 50 million won (US$42,200) to the nonprofit Community Chest of Korea.
