With the South Korean government receiving requests from major countries and international organizations to share its experience about fighting the coronavirus, the government has published an English-language document describing examples of how it has used innovative technology in its response to the disease.

South Korea’s Ministry of Economy and Finance (MOEF) announced on Apr. 15 that it had put together a document about COVID-19 policy containing examples of how information and communications technology have been used to help block the spread of the disease. Other government agencies involved with preparing this document were the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The document details examples of remote work facilitated by video conferences and global virtual private networks (GVPN), remote learning provided by the Educational Broadcasting System (EBS), and remote healthcare made possible by medical applications. It also describes South Korea’s experience with social distancing.

Furthermore, the document explains how government policies were informed by data shared by research institutes and KT (a telecom, how AI was used to interpret medical images, how public data was employed to provide information about where masks were on sale, and how agricultural products were sold online.

MOEF is planning to distribute the document to foreign governments, international bodies, and the foreign press. MOEF said that it’s also eager to hold video conferences with foreign governments and organizations that are interested in learning more about South Korea’s response to the coronavirus.
