Gyeonggi Province will be paying a basic disaster allowance of 100,000 won (US$82) per person to marriage migrants and permanent residents within the province as of June 1.
“As of June 1, we will be paying Gyeonggi Province a basic disaster allowance of 100,000 won per person to marriage migrants and permanent residents within our province,” Gyeonggi Province announced on May 6.
The benefits will be available to approximately 100,000 marriage migrants and permanent residents with alien registrations in Gyeonggi Province between midnight on May 4, 2020, and the date of application. Marriage migrants who have not obtained South Korean citizenship will be able to apply regardless of sojourn status upon verification of their marriage certificate.
The application period will extend from June 1 to July 31. Applicants will be able to bring their alien registration cards and applications in person to the administrative welfare center for their township/neighborhood of residence. Each person may receive a single 100,000-won debit card immediately upon application. As confirmation within the foreigner database is required, applications will not be available through Nonghyup branches. The benefit period extends through Aug. 31, with identical usage conditions and restrictions to those applying to the province’s previous disaster income debit cards.
At a plenary session on Apr. 29, the Gyeonggi Provincial Council passed an amendment to the province’s basic disaster income ordinance allowing foreign nationals to also receive disaster income from the province.
